Ulster County Attorneys
Just north of Orange County lies beautiful Ulster County, where our attorneys are proud to serve in criminal defense, family law, personal injury, landlord-tenant, and foreclosure matters. Whether you need an Ulster County attorney for a criminal trial or a civil case, our lawyers at the Law Offices of Benjamin Greenwald are here to help, with years of fruitful experience to bring to bear, and a passion for justice that shows in every case we handle.
We practice in all Ulster County courts at all levels – from the smallest Justice Court to the Supreme Court in the county seat.
Justice Courts
Most criminal and civil cases begin in one of the village, town, or city courts – collectively known as the “Justice Courts.” These courts handle all misdemeanors, traffic violations, and lawsuits worth $15,000 or less that occur within their respective municipal limits and perform the initial booking for felonies that will move up to the County Court for trial.
If you live in one of these villages, towns, or cities, we will travel to the courthouse for each court date to walk you through the entire process. The court you should report to should be on your summons, and you can find directions below. If you’re not sure where to go or need help with a court-related matter, you can also always call our office at (845) 567-4820.

Ulster County Court
Any felony that takes place in in Ulster gets transferred to the county court after the original indictment at the local justice court, making this one of Ulster’s busiest courthouses. Civil cases worth between $15,000 and $25,000 also take place here, which means we spend a lot of time at the Ulster County Court with our clients. This court is located in the county seat of Kingston, NY at:
285 Wall Street
Kingston, NY 12401
(845) 481-9430
Click on the map below to get directions from your house or place of business to the courthouse.
Free general parking is available off of John Street and the court is open from 9:00 am to 4:45 pm Monday through Friday.
Ulster Family Court
Like the County Court, Ulster’s Family Court is located in Kingston, just a few blocks from the County Court. This court hears all family-related cases except divorces, which can only be heard by the Supreme Court. Cases involving custody, child support, juvenile delinquency, and other cases involving families and children are heard here by one of three judges.
16 Lucas Ave.
Kingston, NY 12401

Ulster Supreme Court
Unlike the federal Supreme Court, Ulster’s Supreme Court is not a court of last resort or even a court of appeals. Instead, it hears any cases that fall outside the jurisdiction of the other courts, including divorces and high-dollar lawsuits (over $25,000).
The Supreme Court shares a building with the County Court at 285 Wall Street, but has its own judges, separate from the one that hears the County Court cases.
